Is it possible to activate an iPhone 3GS bought on eBay with US Cellular?

Question by Michael Buble fan: Is it possible to activate an iPhone 3GS bought on eBay with US Cellular?
I’m planning on buying an iPhone 3GS on eBay, but I don’t know whether it can be activated with US Cellular. If, in the description, it says “unlocked iPhone“, does it mean that it can be activated with any carrier? Please explain this to me, because I’m completely clueless.

I don’t believe US Cellular uses SIM Cards, so it would be impossible to use an iPhone 3GS on US Cellular unless US Cellular sold them themselves; US Cellular has integrated SIM Cards.

“Unlocking” a phone means you call the carrier the phone is for and get the unlock code, once you do so you can use it on another carrier who uses SIM Cards, like if you had the AT&T Quickfire and wanted to use it on T-Mobile you would call AT&T to get the unlock code so you can use a T-Mobile SIM Card in the phone.

Hope this makes sense,
Logan. :-)

  • Simply, No. US Cellular is based on a CDMA network, and iphones will only work on a GSM network. If you really want an iPhone, I suggest switching carriers to either AT&T or T-Mobile, as the iPhone will work on both of these.

  • No. Us Cellular is a CDMA network. The iPhone is a GSM phone. The technology is not compatible.

  • There is a list of current carriers that you can look at here: http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/13/iphone-now-software-unlocked-in-32-countries-and-69-carriers/
